For cases with multiple implants, Dr. Barker may use CBCT imaging and Cerec® 3D technology to design a surgical guide. A surgical guide is custom mouth appliance that is used during the dental implant placement procedure to insert the implants at pre-defined locations in the jawbone.
At your implant procedure visit, we will offer you a variety of spa amenities to relax you, such as aromatherapy or a warm blanket.
Dental implants are placed under a local anesthetic; we also have sedation options for patients that prefer to be in a deeply relaxed state during the dental implant procedure.
Once you are totally comfortable and the area is fully numb, Dr. Barker will insert the dental implant into the pre-designated area. He may use a surgical guide for multiple implants or if the final restoration has very specific site location requirements.
Following implant placement, Dr. Barker will cover the implant or place a temporary restoration to protect the area. The implant site is allowed to heal for a few weeks to several months, depending on the location in the mouth and the type of restoration.
The goal of implant healing is to promote new jawbone growth around the implant (osseointegration). This growth is similar to securing a fence post with a concrete base, we want the implant to stay firmly in place and support the new restoration.
